FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will travel for their second series of the season when they head to Davidson, N.C., to face Davidson for a three-game set. The series opener will be on Friday at 5pm followed by the middle game on Saturday at 1:30 and the finale on Sunday at noon.

The Stags' pitching had an impressive opening weekend against last year's National Champion Runners Up Coastal Carolina, allowing runs in just four of the 24 combined innings. Fairfield pitching combined for a 3.38 ERA with 21 strikeouts – 15 of those coming in the season opener.

Ben Alekson led the staff with six punchouts in four scoreless frames. For his success, he earned the first MAAC Pitcher of the Week award of the season and the fifth in his career.

Rookie
Harrison Engle followed by striking out four of the first five hitters he faced in his collegiate career.

Devin Wolff and
Hunter Hoxie were also impressive in their Fairfield debuts with each throwing four shutout frames.

On the offensive side, the Stags started off their season with two homeruns in their first three at-bats courtesy of back-to-back home runs by
Luke Nomura and
Matthew Bucciero.

Connor Scanlan led the team with four hits and a .333 batting average that also featured a double.

Davidson has started their season with a 2-2 mark which included a series loss to Bryant. Forrest Lietz and Matt Manjooran each recorded a batting average of .500 or better while combining for 13 hits.

Fairfield's next series will be at Elon next weekend.
