EDISON, N.J. – After not allowing a run during his start against National Champions Runners Up Coastal Carolina, Fairfield University Baseball right-hander
Ben Alekson was named the Northeast Beef MAAC Pitcher of the Week. Alekson struck out six batters in his matchup against the sixth-ranked team in the nation while allowing just three hits. This is Alekson's fifth career conference Player of the Week award.
"For the first start of the year, Ben did a great job at mixing three pitches," Head Coach
Bill Currier said. "His changeup was outstanding and he did a good job keeping a top-level team from squaring up the ball."
Alekson kept the Stags in front during his four innings of work finding his way out of jams in impressive fashion. The Chanticleers loaded the bases with nobody out in the first, but Alekson got back-to-back strikeouts followed by a pop out to the catcher to end the threat.
He would end his day in a dominating way by striking out four of his final six hitters.
For his career, Alekson has tallied 15 wins while racking up 140 career punchouts.
Alekson and the Stags are back in action this weekend when they travel to Davidson for a three-game series starting on Friday at 5pm.
