Sansone ’22 Promoted to AAA Worcester

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Former Fairfield University Baseball pitcher Michael Sansone '22 was promoted to the Worcester Red Sox, the AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox to close out the minor league season. It was the second promotion for Sansone in one week after appearing in one game for AA Portland. An All-MAAC First Team selection in 2021, Sansone has appeared in 27 minor league games this season with 77 strikeouts and also posting four wins and two saves.

"I'm really excited about this opportunity," Sansone said. "It's crazy being in High-A ball two weeks ago and getting sent to AA for the last week and now AAA. It feels a little surreal after starting the season in A-ball Salem but I'm really excited to get these opportunities to throw at higher levels to end the season."

"Mike continues to over achieve at every level in college and now at the professional ranks," Fairfield head coach Bill Currier said. "Jumping to AA and now to AAA is a great tribute to his successful season at Greenville."

Sansone graduated Fairfield as one of the best left-handed pitchers in program history, helping the Stags to their historical season in 2021 leading to a NCAA Regional At-Large bid. He tied the single season program record that year with nine wins and finished in the top-5 in the MAAC in: ERA (2.58), WHIP (1.01), and Strikeout-to-Walk ratio (4.87). He earned his first All-MAAC honor that year, being named to the All-MAAC First Team.

In his Fairfield career, Sansone ranks in the top-five all-time in wins (19) and strikeouts (227). He was signed by the Tampa Bay Rays after graduating in 2022 and signed into the Red Sox organization in 2024. He has made a total of 47 appearances in the Red Sox minor league system with 11 wins, 142 strikeouts, and five saves.

Worcester has six more games during the regular season with a six-game homestand against Rochester starting on Tuesday.

Sansone is one of four former Stags in the professional ranks joining: Charlie Pagliarini '23, Trey McLoughlin '22 and Austin Pope '19
