FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Head Coach
Nancy Somera has announced that middle blocker Sophia Nagy will join Fairfield University Volleyball beginning in the fall of 2025. Nagy, who played her freshman campaign in the Patriot League at American University, comes to Fairfield with three seasons of eligibility.
At American in 2024, Nagy played 32 sets over 16 matches for the perennial Patriot League contender. She totaled five kills on 21 swings to go along with five blocks and 11 digs. Nagy was primarily called upon in the serving game, where she landed 12 aces for the Eagles.
"Sophia brings versatility to the middle as a player who contributes offensively and defensively in the front row and scores from behind the endline as a server," said Somera. "Her high-level international experience will help push the level of competition in our practice gym and strengthen us as a team going into the 2025 season."
A native of Budapest, Hungary, Nagy appeared in 38 matches of the Hungarian National Team before joining the Eagles. She was the MVP of the U18 European Championship Qualifiers and took the court in four Champions League matches representing her home country. Nagy also played on the nation's top-ranked U15 team and later for nationally ranked teams at both the U17 and U19 levels.
Fairfield Volleyball finished the 2024 season at 21-12, winning its second consecutive MAAC Championship and the league-leading 14th in program history. The Stags were also 17-1 in conference play to claim their 23rd MAAC Regular Season Championship in the last 29 campaigns.
