FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will travel to UMass for a Wednesday afternoon game at 3pm. This will be Fairfield's only midweek game on the ledger after their home game against Central Connecticut State was postponed.

The Stags are coming off their 23rd-straight conference series win as they took two of three from their crosstown rivals Sacred Heart at Don and Chris Cook Field. The Fairfield bullpen got a lot of work as the relievers combined for 10.2 innings over the last two games after experiencing injuries from two starting pitchers.

Grant Smeltzer highlighted the pen as he tossed four perfect innings in the nightcap on Friday en-route to his first collegiate win. The right-hander lowered his season ERA to 1.04 while also supporting a team-best 0.81 WHIP. Hitters are batting just .180 against Smeltzer, the lowest on the staff.

The Stags still enter the week with the conference's best: ERA (4.54) and WHIP (1.38) while averaging the fewest hits (8.06) and walks (4.37) per nine innings. Ben Alekson leads the bunch with a 2.30 ERA which is second in the MAAC and in the top-25 nationally.

Dean Ferrara added to his hit total which stands at 56 for the year, leading the MAAC and placing in the top-10 in Division I.

Central Connecticut brings an 18-4 overall record after winning seven-straight games. Aidan Redahan is the team leader with a .489 average to go along with five homers and 38 RBI.

The conference-leading Stags will now begin a five-game road trip highlighted by a three-game weekend series at Iona.
