EDISON, N.J. – After a 2-0 week for Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse to lock up a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship, the Stags have claimed two weekly awards from the conference.
Grace Slater was selected as MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, and
Brynn Donnelly was tabbed as the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week.
Slater was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season are racking up 11 points in the wins over Sacred Heart and Marist. Slater scored four goals with one assist against the Pioneers, then matched her career-best with six goals on only six shots in Saturday's win in Poughkeepsie.
On the season, Slater has scored 39 goals with 19 assists for a team-high 58 points. She ranks fourth in the MAAC in goals per game (3.00) and second in points per game (4.46).
Donnelly had an historic week in the draw circle to collect the first MAAC weekly award of her career. The junior totaled 31 draw controls in two games, surpassing the Fairfield single-season record at 129 draw controls and counting. She set a new Fairfield single-game record with 13 in the win over Sacred Heart, then improved upon that mark with 18 – the most by a MAAC player this season – on Saturday at Marist.
This season, Donnelly leads the MAAC and ranks 17th in the nation with 8.06 draw controls per game.
Fairfield Women's Lacrosse enters the postseason at 9-7 overall and 7-1 in the MAAC. The Stags earned the #2 seed in the conference tournament, meriting a bye to the semifinal round. Fairfield takes the field to start its postseason against an opponent to be determined at Mount St. Mary's on Friday, May 2.
