STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – For the second straight day, the Fairfield University softball team split a pair of games at the Penn State Invitational. This afternoon, the Stags rallied from six runs down to tie the game against Canisius before the Griffs plated three runs in the top of the seventh to post a 10-7 win. Fairfield rebounded for a 9-1 victory in a five-inning game in the nightcap.
Ava Armuth enjoyed the best day of her brief Fairfield career as the freshman registered five hits in seven at-bats, scored four runs, and collected eight RBI with two home runs in the two games.
After Canisius built that 7-1 lead in the first game of the day, Fairfield put together six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning to knot the score at 7-7. The Stags loaded the bases with a pair of singles and an error, setting up a grand slam from Armuth that brought the team with a pair of runs.

Anna Paravati and
Faith Camilleri followed with back-to-back doubles that brought home the final two runs of the frame
The Griffs rallied in the top of the seventh with three straight hits after the first hitter was retired. The trio of hits included a single, a double, and a three-run home run from Bailey Allatorre that put the score at 10-7. Fairfield made an attempt at coming back once again when Armuth and Martina Guitierrez singled but neither runner could find their way home.
In the second game, the Stags scored all the runs they would need with five in the top of the first inning.
Morgan Sylvestre and Camilleri brought home the first two runs with singles before Armuth dropped a base hit to chase home two more runs.
Christina Minor also produced an RBI single to complete Fairfield's opening rally.
Minor and Sylvestre came back to tack on two more runs in the fourth inning when the duo each added an RBI single that brought the score to 7-1. Fairfield reached its eight-run lead in the fourth inning when Armuth connected for another a home run, a two-run shot that cleared the right-field fence.
Alyssa Weinberg garnered her fourth win of the season for the Stags, striking out six hitters in her five-inning complete game. The left hander has struck out 42 hitters over her 38 innings pitched this season.
Fairfield will close out the Penn State Invitational with one game on Sunday, playing the host school at 12:30 pm. The Stags will play their first game in the Northeast on Tuesday when they travel to Central Connecticut State University for a 1 pm start.
