Box Score ORLANDO, Fla.-The Fairfield University men's tennis team got back in the win column on Wednesday in the Sunshine State, as the Stags (2-5) used a dominant performance in doubles and grinded out a pair of three-set singles' victories on their way to a 4-3 victory over the Marquette University Golden Eagles (1-13).
Fairfield opened play against Marquette earning the doubles point behind a pair of 6-2 victories by the duos of Luca Benaibbouche and Will O'Brien at number three and Sam Hodges and Calum Jessett in the number two slot.
In singles' action, Sam Hodges posted a tight, straight sets win at number one, 7-6 (5), 6-4, and the Stags' clinched the match win with two comeback, three-sets wins by Calum Jessett at number three and Luca Benaibbouche at number five.
After falling in the first set, 3-6, Jessett rebounded to win in impressive fashion, 6-3, 6-1, and Benaibbouche topped his opponent, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Said head coach Jeff Bricker, "The guys played dominant doubles today and got tough and gritty in singles! Today was a really good hard-fought win!"
Up next, the Fairfield men's tennis team closes out its Florida trip with a Thursday evening match against Saint Thomas Aquinas College.
