Box Score TRUMBULL, Conn.-The Fairfield University women's tennis team took on the visiting Seawolves of Stony Brook University on Saturday evening at the Tennis Club of Trumbull, and the Stags were edged by the visitors, 4-3, in a tight non-conference tussle. Fairfield is now 0-6 on the young Spring season; while Stony Brook evens its season mark at 1-1.
All three of Fairfield's wins came in singles play on Saturday, as the Stags posted straight sets victories at the number four through six flights.
At number four, Nicolette Loeffler earned a 6-3, 6-1 win.
At number five, Lily Malinowski posted a 6-3, 6-4 triumph, and Maeve Cassidy rounded out the trio of Fairfield winners on Saturday with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number six.
Said head coach Jeff Bricker, "It was another close match against a good opponent. We are close but haven't quite figured out how to get over the hump. We are battling hard in every match, and I'm confident wins are coming."
The Fairfield women's tennis team is back in action this Friday night, when the Stags travel to the Garden State of New Jersey to take on Big East foe, Seton Hall University. First serve against the Pirates on Valentine's Night is set for 7:00 p.m.
