EDISON, N.J. – Fairfield University Baseball sophomore right-hander
Ben Alekson was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Pitcher of the Week after tossing six solid innings against Richmond this weekend. Alekson struck out six, allowed just three hits without surrendering an earned run in his 71 pitches on Friday.
"Ben had good efficiency in mixing speeds and keeping his pitch count low throwing 6 innings this early in the season," Pitching Coach
Mike Caruso said.
Alekson started off his day by striking out the side in the first, grabbing half of his six punchouts in the first frame. The only run he gave up was in the second following an error, a single, and a bunt.
After another error in the third, Alekson forced a 4-6-3 double play to empty the bases. He would finish his day by striking out a player in three-straight innings.
This is Alekson's second weekly honor of his career after earning a Pitcher of the Week last season. For the year, he leads the staff with eight strikeouts.
Alekson and the Stags are back in action for a three-game series at James Madison starting on Friday at 3pm.
