GENEVA, Ohio – The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams finished up the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships with the women's team placing second in the championship with 597 team points and the men's team earning third place with 615.5 points. Christopher Weber garnered the gold medal in the 200 butterfly to highlight the day's results.
The 1650 free opened the final day of the MAAC Championships and the Stags were well represented in the event. Three Fairfield women placed in the top eight of the A final, led by Erin Hoyland's second-place swim in 16:57.26. Sofia Smerechniak secured fifth place based on her time of 17:19.10 while Ella Lepis garnered sixth place after completing the distance in 17:26.74.
The men nearly equaled the output of the women as two Stags posted times in the top six with
Joey Nizzardo taking third in 15:53.84 and
Joseph Stewart earning sixth place after completing the distance in 15:56.43.
A trio of Stags made the top eight once again, this time in the 200 back. Erini Pappas was the runner up in the race after clocking in at 2:00.51, while Laura Patalano (2:04.98) and Chloe Wukitch (2:05.28) claimed seventh and eighth, respectively. Aimee Quinlan secured fifth in the B final with her time of 2:06.34.
On the men's side, Fairfield collected sixth, seventh, and eighth finishes in the 200 back behind the work of
Aidan Schnapf (1:48.13),
Jack Behm (1:49.47), and
Max McMillan (1:50.31). The Stags placed three more swimmers in the B final of this distance, paced by
Jay Parente's 1:49.09 third-place swim.
Oliver McLaughlin (1:51.01) and
Will Landon (1:51.30) earned points with their fifth and sixth-place finishes in the B final.
In the women's 100 free, Fairfield saw three student-athletes score in the B final with Holly Rahurahu earning second in 52.23, Olivia Thompson taking third in 52.24, and Sydney Scalise picking up fourth in 52.30.
The men's 100 free put
Cormac Rouse in the A final which he turned into a sixth-place swim by touching the wall in 44.91. The B final also included Fairfield swimmers with Chris Dauser winning the event in 44.94 and
Nicholas Besgen putting together a third-place effort with a time of 45.19.
The 200 breaststroke came next on the schedule and the Stags placed two in the A final and one in the B final. Cailey Stockwell garnered fifth place based on her performance of 2:18.95 while Alison Sposili secured eighth place in 2:20.74. Tone Sandsjo timed out at 2:19.47 which placed her second in the B final.
Jeffrey Vlass was the lone men's swimmer in the 200 breaststroke, coming in sixth place in the B final with his time of 2:03.13.
The 200 butterfly saw Callie Gray capture seventh in the A final with a time of 2:05.09 while Olivia Glaser won the B final after timing in at 2:06.13. Brianna Racanello also competed in the B final, finishing eighth after completing the distance in 2:11.74.
Christopher Weber captured the MAAC title in the 200 butterfly, winning the event in 1:46.89, while
Ed Hunt (1:50.81) and
Tim Regan (1:51.67) grabbed sixth and eighth in the A final.
Ryan Woodzell recorded a time of 1:53.11 in the B final which ranked seventh in the race.
Two Fairfield divers advanced to the finals of the 1-meter with Lillian Tonole placing fourth based on her 217.40 points while Lia Oppenheim taking eighth with 197.20 points.
The 400 free relay closed out the 2025 championships with the Stags finishing third on both the men's and women's sides. For the women, Olivia Thompson, Holly Rahurahu, Erin Hoyland, and Erini Pappas combined for time of 3:27.78. In the men's race,
Cormac Rouse, Chris Dauser,
Nicholas Besgen, and
Joseph Stewart collectively completed the event in 2:58.55.
