Box Score FORT MEYERS, Fla. – The Fairfield University Baseball team slugged 13 hits leading to their first win of 2025 with a 6-4 decision over Florida Gulf Coast. The win evens the series against the reigning ASUN regular season champions. Eight different Stags collected a hit while the Fairfield pitching was impressive in the first eight innings, combining to allow just three hits in that stretch.
Sean Meth started the scoring with the team's first home run of the season, and his first as a Stag, with a solo shot in the third to tie the game at 1-1.
Fairfield would collect at least one run in four of the next five frames, starting with a
Luke Nomura two-out single in the fourth. It would be the second of Nomura's team-high four base hits on the evening.
Last year's MAAC hits record breaker,
Dean Ferrara brought home a run with a two-out single in the sixth. Fairfield plated a pair of runs in the seventh with a
Billy Sullivan double and a
Nick Sturino single. The Stags capped their scoring in the eighth with a Matt Bucciero sacrifice fly.
The Fairfield pitching was equally as impressive in shutting down the Eagles for the first eight inning, allowing just three hits and one run.
Bowen Baker started the game giving up two hits and a run with three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.
Matthew Grabmann made his Fairfield debut retiring all seven hitters he faced in 2.1 innings.
Kevin Kell struck out three in 2.0 innings.
Sturino led the Stags with three hits. Sullivan, Ferrara, and
TJ Schmalzle all picked up a pair.
The two teams will play the rubber game of the series on Sunday at 1pm.
