GENEVA, Ohio – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs competed in the second day of the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships at SPIRE Academy tonight. After day two, the women's team is tied for second place with Marist College, scoring 184 points. The men's team stands fourth in the standings with 204.5 points
The women's 500 free started the second night session with two Stags in the A final. Erin Hoyland and Sofia Smerechniak represented Fairfield and came away with sixth- and eighth-place finishes, posting times of 4:57.96 and 5:00.11 respectively. Niagara's Natalie Killion won the race by clocking in at 4:48.18.
The men were next up in the pool, beginning with Christopher Weber in the 500 free B final. Weber finished the distance in 4:36.80 which placed him seventh in the field and 15
th overall. The A final followed and
Joseph Stewart paced three Fairfield swimmers, taking second place with his time of 4:26.73.
Aidan Schnapf was next in line for the Stags, touching the wall fifth in 4:29.32.
Tim Regan closed out the Fairfield trio by completing the race in 4:29.49 for sixth place.
In the 200 IM, Erini Pappas advanced to the A final and came away with a third-place swim, finishing the course in 2:03.57. The Stags also had two swimmers in the B final, namely Callie Gray and Alison Sposili. Gray finished second in the B final with her time of 2:04.77 while Sposili earned seventh place in the race based on her time 2:08.46
Three members of the men's team were in the 200 IM B final with Chris Dauser leading the pack with his first-place finish, completing the event in 1:48.04.
Ed Hunt (1:49.97) and
Jack Behm (1:51.09) rounded out the trio by touching the wall second and fifth respectively.
Olivia Thompson was the lone Fairfield swimmer in the women's 50 free A final, taking third place after clocking in at 23.59.
Cormac Rouse secured seventh in the men's 50 free B final, posting a time of 20.87.
The 200 free relay saw the women's team tie for third place with Iona University, registering a time of 1:35.05 behind the efforts of Olivia Thompson, Holly Rahurahu, Lauren Patalano, and Sydney Scalise. The men's team took the fifth position by finishing in 1:21.96 with
Cormac Rouse, Chris Dauser,
Nicholas Besgen, and
Aidan Schnapf comprising the Stags' entry.
In diving competition, the women took to the 3-meter board this evening. Lia Oppenheim was the Stags' top finisher, taking eighth place in the A final by accumulating 215.95 points. Lillian Tonole was fourth in the B final and 12
th overall after collecting 208.90 points.
Day three starts with preliminaries at 10 am before the finals begin at 6 pm. Friday's events will include the 100 fly, the 400 IM, the 200 free, the 100 breast, the 100 back, and the 400 medley relay. The men will occupy the diving board as well, setting up shop at three meters.
