FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Four Fairfield University field hockey student-athletes were honored by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for their performance on the pitch in 2025 as the organization announced its annual All-Region teams on Wednesday.
Pilar Mengotti and
Noor Hellemans secured spots on the All-Mideast first team while
Catalina Ness and
Alex Senior garnered berths to the All-Mideast second team. Hellemans received her first All-Mideast honor this year while Ness (2024), Mengotti (2024), and Senior (2023) previously captured the accolade.
Mengotti contributed on both sides of the pitch, placing second among her teammates in scoring while leading the squad in defensive saves. The senior tallied 26 points by registering 10 goals and six assists which included a goal in the NCAA Championship against second-seeded Princeton. She also added three defensive saves to her 2025 statistics which helped her earn the NEC Defensive Player of the Year as well as All-NEC designation.
Hellemans also was part of the Stags defense which yielded just 24 goals in 22 games, highlighted by seven shutouts. The team surrendered just eight goals in nine NEC matches. The junior also enjoyed success inside the offensive circle, posting two goals and seven assists for 11 points which gained her recognition as an All-NEC defender.
Ness adds the NCFHCA honor to her list of awards in 2025, also gaining the NEC Midfielder of the Year as well as All-NEC recognition. Ness patrolled the middle third of the pitch with authority, disrupting opponent's offensive ball movement in addition to setting up her teammates offensively. She finished the campaign with a goal and six assists for eight points, also earning an assist in the NCAA Championship with an assist against Princeton.
Senior returns to the All-Region team after ranking third among her teammates with 25 points, recording 10 goals and five assists in 22 games played. A two-time NEC Offensive Player of the Week, the forward finished her Fairfield career ranked seventh all-time with 28 goals scored and 10
th all-time with 68 points. Senior also picked up her third berth to the All-NEC team with her placement in 2025.
The Fairfield University field hockey team, under Head Coach
Laura Gebhart, posted a 16-6 overall record, the second-highest win total in school history. The Stags posted an unblemished 9-0 record in NEC play, captured the NEC title, and advanced to the NCAA Championship. The team defeated Boston University by a 1-0 score in the opening round of the NCAAs before falling to host and second-seeded Princeton University by a 3-1 count in the first round.
