Nomura Named 2026 Captain

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team has announced that senior infielder Luke Nomura has been named a team captain for the 2026 season. Nomura, an All-MAAC First Team selection last season, will return to the Stags after helping the team to a MAAC Championship and NCAA Regional appearance last year.

"Luke is the type of teammate who brings leadership to every practice or game," Head Coach Bill Currier said. "He holds teammates accountable by demanding full effort and focus from all. As one of the best proven players in the MAAC he will serve as a great example for Stags' baseball."

Nomura finished second in the MAAC with 81 hits and 65 runs scored while placing third with 141 total bases. He recorded a career-high .332 batting average while also posting personal bests in: hits, runs, home runs (14), RBI (52), walks (47), doubles (16), on-base percentage (.443), slugging percentage (.578), and stolen bases (16). He was named to the MAAC All-Championship team for the second-straight season after batting .461 in the tournament. He also led the Stags in the NCAA Regional with three hits against nationally-ranked Florida.

In his career, he has been named to an All-MAAC team for two-straight campaigns, with a Second Team selection in 2024 and First Team honors last season.

In the Fairfield record books, he ranks: sixth all-time in home runs (25), eighth in slugging percentage (eighth), 12th in on-base percentage (.428), and 15th in average (.324).

As a team, the Stags have won two MAAC Regular Season Championships and the MAAC Tournament title during Nomura's collegiate career. Fairfield has also posted 30 wins in all three seasons, including a program-record tying 39 last year.
