FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will return to their home pitch when they host the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers for a Wednesday afternoon contest at 4pm. The Stags enter the match in a tie for third place in the MAAC standings, but just one point shy of league-leading Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart.
Fairfield might also be able to witness history on Wednesday as their senior goalkeeper
Katie Wright is currently tied for the most all-time wins in program history with 49. Wright was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week following her performance of the week. She tallied seven saves and recorded a shutout against Marist, her fourth of the season. She made one of her most impressive saves in the final six seconds in the win over Canisius to preserve a 2-1 victory.
The win tied her with Anne Lyons who set the program's all-time wins record of 49 victories 25 years ago.
Ashley McMahon and
Jess Lynskey were the Stags to touch net in their victory against the Griffs. McMahon is now in the top-10 in the conference with 13 points and has tallied a point in seven of her last eight outings. Lynskey's score was the first goal of her career and was eventually the game-winner.
Mount enters play with a 3-8-1 overall record and a 1-5-1 mark in the league. Cassidy Nichols is the team leader with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
Fairfield will hit the road again when they travel to face Saint Peter's on Saturday at noon.
