FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team improved to 2-0 in Metro Conference play after a 2-0 shutout win against Canisius on Senior Day. Five different Stags tallied a point with
Ella Pisani and
Amelie Stewart touching net in the victory.
"The fact that we're creating chances is a great sign," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "I thought we moved the ball really well and played with a lot of rhythm for most of the game. We just need to be a little tidier in the final third and we will be alright. We have to keep creating chances which is important."
Fairfield fired 28 shots including 17 on target which forced 15 saves from Canisius' Alexa Turmel, the most by a Metro Conference player this season.
The Stags netted one goal in each half, starting with a tapper from Pisani that hit off the post and trickled across the goal line in the 40th minute.
Payton Zaun created the chance with a cross to the middle that Pisani finished for her fifth goal of the season.
A pair of Stags would be credited with assists in Fairfield's next goal in the 59th minute as
Ashlyn Walsh sent a ball towards the end line where
Ashley McMahon was able to cross and find Stewart who scored in her second-straight match.
Walsh has now tallied 18 assists which puts her ninth on the program's all-time list.
Fairfield, who entered the game second in the conference in shots per game, tallied 28 more on Saturday. Zaun led the team with eight chances with three on target with McMahon right behind with seven attempts and four on frame.
Alyssa Gluting recorded her second-straight clean sheet with one save.
Fairfield will next travel to Siena for another conference match on Saturday at 1pm.
