Joseph Stewart and
Andrew Cataldo earned weekly accolades from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for their performances against Boston University and Colgate University last weekend. Stewart secured the male swimmer of the week while Cataldo garnered the male diver of the week.
Stewart picked up two individual wins and was part of the second-place relay in Fairfield's split with Boston University and Colgate. He opened the day with a first-place finish in the 200 free, posting a time of :1:42.18 before gaining the top spot in the 100 free, completing the distance in 46.39. He concluded his afternoon as part of the 200 free relay team, helping the foursome take second place with a time of 1:25.42.
Cataldo picked up two of the team's 13 first-place finishes against Boston University and Colgate by sweeping the 1-meter and 3-metere diving events. He earned a NCAA zone cut with his performance in the 1-metere board, tallying 304.70 points which was the only total to surpass 300 pints in the event. He completed the sweep by posting 276.10 points in the 3-meter dive, winning the event by nearly 20 points. The weekly award was Cataldo's fifth this season, winning the honor on October 9, 16, and 23 in addition to November 27.
The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams will continue their season by traveling to MAAC foe Iona University on Saturday, January 18. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 pm.
