Box Score WEST POINT, N.Y.-The Fairfield University men's tennis team hit the courts for the first time during the 2024-25 academic year, as the Stags kicked off their fall schedule with a busy weekend at the Army Shoot Out which featured squads from Sacred Heart, Lehigh, Stonehill, Holy Cross, fellow MAAC member Marist and the host Black Knights in a an event where no team scores were kept.
In doubles through the course of the weekend, the team of Sam Hodges and Kacper Krolikowski picked up three strong wins to lead Fairfield.
In singles action, the Stags had their best showing of Shoot Out winning five matches versus the Skyhawks of Stonehill College.
Kacper Krolikowski picked up wins over the three days playing both at number one and three in the lineup.
Luca Benaibbouche had a pair of singles' triumphs on the banks of the Hudson, plus Kostas Kollias, Alex Aguiar, Calum Jessett, Domagoj Stabek and Zach Whittington also earned victories while playing in a top six spot in the Fairfield lineup.
Head coach Jeff Bricker summed up his team's opening weekend of the year saying, "It was great to get to see the men in action this weekend. After a rough first day we rebounded and showed some grit and fight which is what we want to develop this fall. Congrats to Kacper and Zach for getting their first wins in college tennis. A lot to work on, but excited for the process!"
Fans will have an opportunity to check out the 2024-25 men's team next weekend on the Walsh Athletic Center Courts from Friday, September 20 through Sunday, September 22, as the Stags will host Fordham, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and Stonehill in the 2024 Fairfield Fall Invitational.
