MILFORD, Conn.- The Fairfield University women's golf team opened its 2024-25 campaign with a fifth place finish out of eight teams at the Sacred Heart University Fall Classic, which took place at Great River Golf Club in Milford, Connecticut on Monday and Tuesday. The Stags posted a team score of 971 for the three-round competition that saw 36 holes played on Monday with a final 18 holes being played on Tuesday.
Fairfield finished just three shots behind host Sacred Heart, as the Pioneers took fourth place with a score of 968. Boston University won the team event with a score of 893, as BU had the top four finishers on the individual leaderboard. The 2024 SHU Fall Classic also featured Mount St. Mary's, Merrimack, Siena, LaSalle and Hofstra.
Junior Katelynn Waclawski finished in the Top 10 in this year's season opener, as she took eighth place with a score of 234 for the three rounds (83-73-78).
Classmate Juliette Prud'Homme, who had her team's lowest round of the event when she shot an even par 72 in round two late on Monday, finished tied for sixteenth place at Great River with a score of 239 (82-72-85).
Senior Julia Rabadam tied for 20th place shooting a 243 (77-81-85) over the 54 holes.
Newcomers Sofia Nogalo, who finished 31st with a score of 255, and Sophia DeSantis, who finished in 40th position with a total of 277, rounded out the five scoring players for the Stags.
Katie Patterson and Lucy Fowler competed as individuals and placed 34th and 43rd respectively to open the season.
BU's Madison Takai won the event with a total score of 219.
Up next, the Fairfield women's golf team will head north to take part in the Red Bandanna Invitational hosted by Boston College at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Massachusetts on September 23 and 24.
