BERMUDA RUN, N.C.-Competing as Fairfield's first-ever representative in an NCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship Tournament, graduate student Maria Beltran wrapped up play at the Bermuda Run Regional hosted by Wake Forest University at Bermuda Run Country Club East Course with a final round score of 78. Beltran shot 72-71-78 to finish with a 54-hole total of 221 (+5) for the tournament; her final score and 32nd place finish both marked the best performance ever by a MAAC golfer at an NCAA Regional.
Beltran, who qualified for this year's NCAA Women's Golf Championship by winning the 2024 McLeod Trophy as the individual MAAC Champion, bested the then-record 35th place finish from Quinnipiac's Leeyen Peralta in 2022. Beltran's 221 this week was five strokes better than the former record of 226 set by Butler's Jenna Peters in 2013.
Caitlyn Macnab of Ole Miss and Wake Forest's Rachel Kuehn finished atop the leaderboard at Bermuda Run, each posting an impressive 204 (-12), over the three days of play.
The full squads of Ole Miss, Texas, Wake Forest, Mississippi State and Oregon State, along with Tennessee's Bailey Davis, who shot the lowest score amongst golfers on non-advancing teams at -8 over the 54 holes, will move on to the NCAA Championship.
Beltran completes her history season as the first-ever Fairfield women's golfer to compete at an NCAA Regional and the third Stag to raise the women's McLeod Trophy as MAAC Champion. She led the Stags to second place in the conference championship with the best 54-hole team score at the event in program history.
