BERMUDA RUN, N.C.-Fairfield's Maria Beltran notched three birdies over her final nine holes of play on Monday to finish with an even par 72 after the first round of the 54-hole NCAA Division I Women's Golf Regional being hosted by Wake Forest University at the Bermuda Run Country Club East Course.
Beltran's 72 places her in a tie for 22nd place in the 66-golfer field at the Wake Forest Regional. Bailey Davis of the University of Tennessee sits atop the leaderboard after day one of play, as she scorched the 6297-yard course with an eight under par 64.
Maria qualified for this year's NCAA Women's Golf Championship by winning the 2024 McLeod Trophy as the individual Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Champion at this year's MAAC Championship that took place from April 19-21 at the Disney's Palm Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
There are six total NCAA women's golf regional sites in 2024. In each regional, 12 teams and six individuals not on those teams are competing. The regional consists of 18 holes of stroke play each day over a three-day period. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 17-22 at LaCosta Golf Club and Resort in Carlsbad, California.
Beltran will be back on the course at the NCAA Regional on Tuesday and Wednesday in North Carolina.
