Rowing Secures Third Place At MAAC Championships

Varsity 4, 2nd Varsity 8 Collect Medals

PENNSUAKEN, N.J. -- The Fairfield University women's rowing team finished in the third position at the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship which took place on the Cooper River. Two of the Stags' boats earned a medal with the varsity four collecting the bronze medal and the second varsity 8 garnering the silver medal. 

The second varsity 4 opened the event and crossed the finish line in fourth place as defined by their time of 8:47.57. Jacksonville won the event in 8:26.41 followed by Marist (8:31.86) and Sacred Heart A (8:36.18). Fairfield's entry included coxswain Grace Tyszka, Catherine Martin, Liv Burghardt, Grace Polatsek, and Caity Gregitis. 

The varsity 4 was next in the water and finished the distance in 8:24.55 for third place, behind Jacksonville (8:07.74) and Sacred Heart (8:10.23). The Stags' crew was comprised by coxswain Alisa Tsavaris, Grace McDonough, Ava Forgione, Julie Pedrazzi, and Mia Van Mater.

In the second varsity race, Fairfield was the runner up based on its time of 7:33.56 which was off Jacksonville's winning pace of 7:27.74. The Stags were represented by coxswain Lexi Tomlinson, Sophie Savage, Shaylin Tombs, Zuzanna Janusz, Kelly Cullen, Megan Rourke, Miranda Schmidt, Shawn O'Brien, and Lauren Hoppe.

The final event of the day was the varsity 8 with the Stags ending the event in the fourth slot behind the efforts of coxswain Marianna Kalin, Catherine Morrissey, Emily Regan, Molly Squire, Victoria Conrad, Megan Blair, Kathryn Bergstrom, Sarah Wendling, and Arianna Welton. The top four boats included Jacksonville (7:05.18), Sacred Heart (7:14.17), Marist (7:19.37), and Fairfield (7:22.65).

Jacksonville University won the conference championship based on its 42 team points while Sacred Heart University (34 points), and Fairfield University (29 points) rounding out the top three positions. The remainder of the standings consisted of Marist (25 points), Stetson University (20 points), and Canisius College (6 points).
