LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.-Fairfield's Maria Beltran sits in a three-way tie atop the leaderboard after round one of the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Golf Championship taking place this weekend at Disney's Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista Florida.
Beltran shot a one under par 71 over the first 18 holes of the three-day, 54-hole championship. She is tied with Quinnipiac's Aimee Uchida and Albany's Luica Esteban in the race for the McLeod Trophy.
As a team, the Stags sit in third place out of nine teams after day one of the MAAC Championship finishing opening round play with a total score of 296 (+8).Â
Quinnipiac leads the team standings seven strokes ahead of Fairfield, after the Bobcats shot a one over par 289 as a squad. The University of Albany is in second place after the first 18 holes four strokes in front of the Stags at 292.
Graduate student Julia Towne fired a one over par 73 to finish in a sixth place tie after Friday's opening round.
Sophomore Katelynn Waclawski and senior Sydney Nethercott carded four over par 76's after the opening 18 holes to tie for fourteenth place in the 45-golfer event.
Junior Julia Rabadam rounded out the Stags in action on Friday with a score of 77.
Second round play in the 2024 MAAC Women's Golf Championship on Disney's Palm Course will begin on Saturday morning, and the event will come to a close with the final 18 holes on Sunday.
