FLEMING ISLAND, Fla.-Graduate student Maria Beltran took nine strokes off her Friday score to shoot a final round best 71 (-1) to help the Fairfield University women's golf team to a third place finish out of eight teams in the Stags' 2024 Spring season-opening tournament, the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational, which took place at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island, Florida. As a team Fairfield shot a team total of 607 (302-305) over the two-day event. Host Sacred Heart won the weekend's team event with a score of 586.
After shooting an 80 on Friday, Beltran scorched the course on Saturday with her nine-stroke improvement to total 151 for the tournament which put her in a tie for eleventh place with classmate Julia Towne (73-78).
Junior Julia Rabadam shot a 79 on Saturday to go along with a 74 on Friday to total 153 tying her for thirteenth place.
Sophomore Katelynn Waclawski tied for sixteenth on the weekend carding scores of 76 and 79 for a 155 total, and senior Sydney Nethercott tied for twentieth at the event with a 156 total (79-77).
Sophomore Juliette Prud'Homme also had a Top-30 finish on the weekend tying for 28th place shooting a 159 over the two rounds.
The Sacred Heart duo of Kailee Welch and Maya Robilio shared medalist honors with a one-over 145 score over the 36 holes.
The Fairfield women's golf team will be back in action on March 29 and 30 in Grasonville, Maryland at the Women's Intercollegiate at the Prospect Bay Country Club.
