Stags In Third Place After Day One of SHU Spring Break Invitational

Julia Towne Leads The Team Shooting A 73 To Open the 2024 Season

FLEMING ISLAND, Fla.-The Fairfield University women's golf team hit the links for the first time in 2024 on Friday opening their season at the two-day, Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational taking place at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island, Florida.  After the first 18 holes of action, the Stags sit in third place in the eight-team event after posting a team score of 302.  Host Sacred Heart sits in first place after day one of play after carding a four under par score of 284.  Purdue Fort Wayne is in second place heading into the final day of play five strokes ahead of Stags with a total of 297.

Individually for Fairfield, graduate student Julia Towne fired a one over par 73 over Friday's opening 18 holes to finish in a tie for sixth three strokes behind leader Kailee Welch of Sacred Heart who finished with a two under par score of 70.

One stroke behind Towne with a two over 74 in a tie for eighth is junior Julia Rabadam, and rounding out the Stags' top-four on opening day of the 2024 season are Katelynn Waclawski at a four over 78 putting her in a tie for fourteenth place, and senior Sydney Nethercott who shot a 73 (+7) to find herself in a tie for twenty-third on the leaderboard.

Play at the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invitational will wrap up on Saturday on the Sunshine State.
