Men's Tennis Falls In Spring Break Opener At Elon

Stags Right Back In Action On Monday At Gardner-Webb

Box Score ELON, N.C.-Returning to the courts for the first time in over two weeks, the Fairfield University men's tennis team opened a three-match Spring Break swing through North Carolina with a 7-0 loss against the host Phoenix of Elon University at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.  With the loss that snaps a two-match winning streak, Fairfield is now 3-6 on the season with the victory; while the Phoenix up their season mark to 7-4 in 2024.

The Stags were slow to shake off the rust of their extended layoff on Sunday afternoon against a quality opponent in Elon, as the host squad took the doubles point and then posted straight sets wins in singles action from the number one through five flights before graduate student Griffin Schlesinger fell in a hard-fought, super tiebreaker (7-10) in his match at number six singles after splitting two sets, 4-6 and 7-5.

The men's tennis team is right back in action tomorrow afternoon when the Stags continue their Spring Break trip to North Carolina taking on Gardner-Webb University.  Monday action against the Bulldogs is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
