GRASONVILLE, Md. – Julia Towne carded an opening-round 80 to set the pace for Fairfield University Women's Golf at the Women's Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay hosted by JEL Golf. As a team, the Stags are sixth in a 12-team field at the midway point of the tournament.
Towne's +8 puts her in a tie for 19th place out of 69 golfers. She was closely followed by
Katelynn Waclawski's 81 and twin rounds of 82 for
Maria Beltran and
Julia Rabadam to round out the scoring quartet for the Stags.
Sydney Nethercott and
Juliette Prud'Homme each turned in an 84 to cap the Fairfield performances in Round 1.
Fairfield's team score of 325 has them four strokes back of fifth-place LIU. Sacred Heart leads the pack with a 299. The Pioneers were paced by a 73 from Margot Rouquette, who shares the top of the individual leaderboard with Faith McIlvain of Towson.
The Stags are back on the course at Prospect Bay on Saturday to close out this week's tournament. Action resumes on April 7-8 at the FDU Invitational in Hamburg, N.J.
