DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fairfield University Men's Basketball wrapped up the 2023-24 season with a loss to Seattle on Tuesday evening in the Ro College Basketball Invitational Semifinals.
Caleb Fields led the Stags with 20 points in his final collegiate game.
"Our guys opted to play in this tournament because they wanted to continue to compete together and to be together as a team. We are grateful to the CBI for the invitation and the opportunity to have this past week together," said Head Coach
Chris Casey. "As for tonight's game, Seattle is a talented team and they took advantage of every mistake and every bit of daylight we gave them. We will watch film and learn from this game just like every other, but for now, we're focused on recognizing our seniors and the positives of a very successful season for our program."
The Stags conclude the season at 24-13, tied with the 1985-86 MAAC Championship team that finished 24-7 for the second-most wins in program history and just one victory off the all-time record set by the 2010-11 Stags (25-8). Fairfield's .649 winning percentage has only been topped by previous Stags' teams on four occasions since 1980.
Seattle (22-14) advances to challenge top-seeded High Point in Wednesday's CBI Championship Game.
Fields' 11th 20-point game of the season included four of the Stags' three-pointers. He also corralled six rebounds and dished out a team-best five assists. The graduate student played every minute of the Stags' last four postseason games and only exited tonight's contest for a much-deserved curtain call with 56 seconds remaining.
Fields finishes his career with an all-time great scoring campaign for the Stags. His 592 points are the sixth-most in program history, while his 16.9 points per contest rate as the most by a Stag since Tyler Nelson's 20.2 ppg in 2017-18. Additionally, Fields set a new Fairfield record with 113 made three-pointers this season. In only two years as a Stag, he racked up 931 points and ranks seventh all-time with 163 career triples.
Alexis Yetna also concluded a standout college career this evening, posting a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The graduate student from Paris, France returned from injury to appear in the final 15 games of the season, where he averaged 7.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per outing.
