Box Score EMMITSBURG, Md.-The Fairfield University men's tennis team remained red-hot on Sunday afternoon, as the Stags earned their fourth straight win and opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with a strong 5-2 road victory over Mount Saint Mary's University. Fairfield is now 7-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Mount is now 5-9 overall and 0-2 in the MAAC.
The Stags grabbed Sunday's double point, sweeping all three matches, as Thomas Smart and Sam Hodges won at number one, 6-4. Nick Condos and Will O'Brien took down the opposition in the number two slot by the identical score, and Luca Benaibbouche and Kostas Kollias cruised at number three, 6-2.
Fairfield earned four, straight sets singles triumphs in its conference opener to put the match away, as Thomas Smart won at number one, 6-1, 6-1, Sam Hodges breezed at number two, 6-0, 6-2, Nick Condos topped his opponent, Â 6-3, 6-1 at number three and Keean Shah won at number six, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Sunday's victory pleased head coach Jeff Bricker who said, "It's nice to start of MAAC play 1-0. Great energy by the men today to come out quickly and assert themselves. We still have a few things to clean up, but a good start!"
Up next, the men's tennis team continues conference play with a trip to Siena on Thursday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 12 noon.
