FAIRFIELD, Conn.-Battling the elements on a rainy and wind-swept afternoon plus local rival, the Sacred Heart University Pioneers, the Fairfield University men's tennis team continued its strong play of late posting the squad's third straight win and third consecutive shutout triumph with a 4-0 victory on Wednesday at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.  With the win, the Stags are now 6-8 overall on the season, while Sacred Heart is now 3-13 so far in 2024.

A hard-fought win in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5) at number two doubles by Nick Condos and Will O'Brien gave Fairfield the all-important, opening doubles point in the match combining with a strong 6-1 win at number three by a Luca Benaibbouche and Kostas Kollias.

After picking up the doubles point, the Stags would put the match away amongst the raindrops, as the trio of Sam Hodges at number two (6-2, 6-0), Kostas Kollias at number four (6-4, 6-2) plus Griffin Schlesinger at number six (6-1, 6-1) sealed the Fairfield win with straight sets victories.

Wednesday's other three singles matches were not completed due to the inclement weather plus the outcome of the match being already decided.

Up next, the men's tennis team will begin the three-week sprint that is the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season schedule on Sunday at 12 noon when the Stags travel to Emmitsburg, Maryland to take on Mount St. Mary's.
