Season Starts Saturday at Holy Cross

Fairfield visits the Crusaders for a 1 p.m. contest

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Five-time defending MAAC Champion Fairfield Women's Lacrosse opens the 2024 season this Saturday, Feb. 10 with a 1 p.m. clash at Holy Cross. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
 
Fairfield University Stags (0-0, 0-0 MAAC)
  • Fairfield begins its ninth season with Head Coach Laura Field at the helm
  • The Stags are the preseason favorite in the MAAC, led by graduate student trio Elizabeth Talluto, Libby Rowe and Lindsey Barnes, all of whom earned Preseason All-MAAC laurels
  • Fairfield was 14-5 overall last and 7-1 in the MAAC last spring, winning the conference title and making an NCAA postseason trip for the fifth consecutive campaign
  • Talluto and Rowe are the Stags' top returning scorers with 65 and 64 points, respectively in 2023
 
College of the Holy Cross Crusaders (0-0, 0-0 Patriot)
  • Holy Cross was 7-11 overall and 4-5 in the Patriot League last season
  • The Crusaders have been tabbed for sixth of 10 teams in the Patriot League Preseason Poll
  • Lauren Drillock earned Preseason honors from the league after leading Holy Cross with 67 points en route to All-Patriot League Second Team laurels
  • Head Coach Amanda Belichick is beginning her ninth season in Worcester
 
The Series (Fairfield leads 11-10)
  • Last year's season-opening win for the Stags broke a deadlock in the series, with Fairfield taking an 11-10 lead
  • Since Field and Belichick both became head coaches in 2016, the series is 4-2 in favor of Fairfield
  • Holy Cross won seven of the first eight meetings from 1997-2007, with the Stags winning 10 of the last 13 since
