Stags Outslug Quinnipiac, 17-13, in Key MAAC Clash

Caputo sets career highs with five goals, eight total points

HAMDEN, Conn. – Three days after conceding just four goals in a pivotal MAAC win, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse found itself in a bona fide shootout on Saturday at Quinnipiac. The Stags rang up 17 goals – led by a career-high eight points from Tessa Caputo – to hold off the host Bobcats and claim the 17-13 final.

With their eighth straight win, the Stags move to 12-3 on the season and 7-0 in the MAAC. Fairfield keeps pace with Niagara, which moved to 7-0 following a 10-9 overtime win over Marist today in Western New York.

Quinnipiac fell to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in the MAAC with today's result.

Caputo scored a career-high five goals also with three assists to round out her new personal-best eight points on the day. She ran her team-leading totals to 35 goals and 59 total points this spring.

Kyleigh Tufano also had a career day with four goals, sparked by three with the Stags in player-up situations. Tufano had a "natural hat trick" in the second quarter with three consecutive goals to help Fairfield build a 12-6 lead that it would not relinquish.

Haley Burns also posted a four-point day with three goals and an assist, and Mary Henry had four points comprised of one goal and three helpers. Lizzie Getz pitched in a career-best three assists, and Kelly Haggerty rounded out the scoring with her team-leading 36th goal of the season.

The Stags stayed on the attack with an 18-14 advantage in draw controls. Brynn Donnelly pulled down a game-high nine from the dot. Lila Berkery had four draw controls as a part of a standout day in the midfield that also included two caused turnovers and three ground balls.

Defensively, Sophia Colasacco had two caused turnovers, two ground balls, and collected two of her three draw controls in the fourth quarter to help the Stags hold off a late Bobcats' run. Defenders Delaney Brimhall and Grace Kiernan also recorded two caused turnovers apiece.

Anna Givens led Quinnipiac with four goals. Cate Bendowski – the Bobcats' top facilitator – added three assists to her total along with one goal.

Fairfield Women's Lacrosse concludes the regular season next Saturday, April 18 with a 4 p.m. visit from Marist in the second half of a doubleheader on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. With a win, the Stags would secure at least a share of their 17th overall and fourth consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship.

Should the Stags and Niagara finish tied at either 8-0 or 7-1, the top seed and host for the upcoming MAAC postseason will be determined by the conference office at the close of competition next weekend.
