HAMDEN, Conn.-A pair of seeded players from the Fairfield University women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals of the inaugural Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Masters Tournament being hosted by Quinnipiac University this weekend from Friday through Sunday.
The 2024 MAAC Masters Tournament is a singles and doubles single-elimination tournament for both women's and men's squads.
After receiving byers in the opening round of 32, second-seeded Anna Neyestani and sixth-seeded Nicolette Loeffler moved on to play in the tournament's group of final eight players.
Neyestani topped Saloni Tamang of Niagara, 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 in the super tiebreaker.
Loeffler had a bit of an easier time advancing to Saturday's play, as she downed her opponent, Maria Melo of Niagara, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Victoria Mandma also saw action in singles play for the Stags on Friday, but she fell in her opening round match to Maria Buss of Rider in a super tiebreaker, 2-6, 7-5, 4-10.
Along with Neyestani and Loeffler playing in the singles' quarterfinals on Saturday morning, the Fairfield doubles squads of Sarah Liu and Maria Gell plus Maeve Cassidy and Nicolette Loeffler will begin their quest for a 2024 MAAC Masters title.
