BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Golf opened the fall season in grand fashion as the Stags won the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield.
Julia Towne set the pace in fifth place – one of three Stags in the top 10 – as Fairfield brought home the team title.
Fairfield rode a six-stroke lead after Round 1 and then held off a late charge by Franklin Pierce to top the Ravens by one stroke. The rest of the leaderboard consisted of Hofstra, Hartford, New Haven, Assumption and Adelphi.
Towne carded a 36-hole score of 153 (+9) to pace the Stags individually at fifth of 45 golfers overall. Her opening round 74 (+2) was the best by a Stag for the tournament.
Julia Rabadam was one stroke behind Towne in sixth place with a 154 (+10), and
Maria Beltran also cracked the top 10 in eighth place with a 156 (+12).
Fairfield was consistent up and down the starting lineup, as
Katelynn Waclawski placed 11th with a 158 (+14),
Juliette Prud'Homme slotted in 16th place with a 160 (+16).
Lucy Fowler and
Grace Kryscio competed as individuals and placed 30th and 32nd, respectively.
Kesinee Prukmathakul of Franklin Pierce won individual medalist honors by five strokes with an even-par 144. Prukmathakul is the two-time reigning Northeast 10 Conference Player of the Year.
Fairfield Women's Golf continues the fall slate in two weeks at the Boston College Intercollegiate on Sept. 25-26.
