Box Score 3 STORRS, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis played a trio of "hidden duals" this weekend, going toe-to-toe with Army West Point, UConn and Quinnipiac.
Sarah Liu picked up a singles win for the Stags, while
Katarina Plumtree earned one doubles win apiece alongside
Nicolette Loeffler and
Maeve Cassidy. Loeffler and Cassidy each made their collegiate debut this weekend.
"We didn't get the number of wins we wanted this weekend, but we got better every day and everyone competed hard despite having three players unable to compete," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "It was great to see some of the freshmen get their first matches under their belts. We have a lot to work on over the next 10 days before the West Point Invite, but we saw a lot of good things this weekend."
Liu's victory came in straight sets over Quinnipiac's Caitlin Flower. Plumtree and Cassidy defeated the Bobcats' tandem of Nikole Lisovyy and Vera Sekerina, while Plumtree and Loeffler knocked off the UConn duo of Isabella Asenov and Isabel Petri Bere.
The "hidden dual" format consists of a series of head-to-head matches between two teams. While the individual results of all completed matches are official, there is no team score recorded.
Fairfield Women's tennis returns to action in two weeks at the West Point Invitational on Sept. 22-24.
