FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After having their entire series with Rider washed away with the rain, the Fairfield University Baseball team will partake in one of their busiest weeks of the season with five games during the next week. The Stags will start off that busy stretch with two road midweek games as they travel to Stony Brook on Tuesday at 2:30pm and Sacred Heart on Wednesday at 2pm.
With no games this weekend, the Stags dropped in the national rankings in total statistics but still rank in the top-25 in the country in several offensive categories. The Stags are 21st in on-base percentage (.417), 15th in slugging percentage (.543), 11th in runs per game (9.1), and 10th in batting average (.318).
All of those numbers would be the highest in any single season in program history. With at least 14 games left to play, the Stags have scored 344 runs, the third most in any Stags season. Their 66 homers and 314 RBI are also in the top-three in single season history.
The Stags' offense has been balanced all year with four different players recording their 100th career hit this year while
Charlie Pagliarini and
Mike Becchetti also recorded their 100th career RBI. Pagliarini still leads the MAAC with a .401 batting average, 16 homers, and 59 RBI, all ranking towards the top of the country. In 124 career games, Pagliarini has crushed 32 homers and drove in 109 RBI with a .296 average. He is three long balls shy of tying Tom Lopusznick's program record of 35 set in 2000.
Fellow infielder
Noah Lucier overtook the team's hit lead as he now paces the team with 59 hits and 13 doubles. He recently snapped a 10-game hitting streak where he batted .558 (24-for-43) and scored 20 runs. The 59 hits also leads the league.
Becchetti is the MAAC leader with 50 runs scored, bringing his career total to 129, the eighth most in program history.
Stony Brook enters play with a 19-22 overall record and a 10-11 mark in the CAA. Evan Giordano is the team's leading hitter with 63 hits, nine homers, 17 doubles, and a .661 slugging percentage.
Sacred Heart will enter the week with an 18-23 mark and a 13-11 record in the NEC. Shortstop Sam Mongelli paces the team with a .407 average, 12 homers, 14 doubles, and 33 RBI.
The Stags will next return home for a three-game set against Canisius starting on Friday at 3pm.
