EDISON, N.J – Highlighted by a trio of major individual awards, the Fairfield University women's lacrosse team brought home a total of 10 All-MAAC distinctions as part of end of season conference awards.
After seeing the Stags to a 12-4 record in the regular season including 7-1 in league play, Head Coach Laura Field has been named the 2023 MAAC Coach of the Year, while in addition the Stags also claimed both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors from the MAAC with Olivia Doody and Caroline Mangan taking those respective awards.
Doody wrapped up a stellar regular season for Fairfield as the points leader on the team with 57 points to tally a new career high. She dished out 34 assists, also a team high, while also tallying 23 goals. For Mangan, she sits amongst the Stags leaders in nearly every defensive statistic, registering 31 ground balls, 33 draw controls and 31 caued turnovers. Mangan also scored a goal in the crucial April 8 win over Siena.
Alongside the awards, eight other players also brought home All-MAAC honors, taking three spots at each of the offensive, midfield, and defensive positions in addition to Nicollette LaVista tabbed to the All-MAAC First Team as a draw specialist. On attack, Doody was named to the first team with Libby Rowe and Elizabeth Talluto earning second team honors with 55 and 54 points, respectively.
A trio of players landed on the All-MAAC Second Team in the midfield, with Maggie Fort, Rylee Harrell and Haley Burns each taking awards for the squad. Defensively, Mangan was named a unanimous First Team honoree. Lindsey Barnes would also claim first team accolades, and Julia Rigolizzo was named to the second to round out the barrage of all-conference awards for the top-seeded Stags heading into the MAAC Tournament.
As the top seed in the MAAC Championship, Fairfield has earned a bye to the semifinal round of the conference tournament. The "Final Four" will convene on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium on May 5-7 to determine the 2023 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Champion.
