Stags Host Canisius on Senior Day, Saturday at Noon

Both teams enter the day at 2-0 in the MAAC

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A matchup of unbeaten MAAC teams is set for Saturday, March 28 when Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse hosts Canisius on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium. The Stags will celebrate Senior Day prior to the noon opening draw. Admission is free for all fans.

The Fairfield University Stags (7-3, 2-0 MAAC)
  • Fairfield won its first overtime game of the season on Wednesday, picking up an 8-7 victory at Sacred Heart.
  • Tessa Caputo had the golden goal as a part of a five-point day. Caputo leads the Stags and ranks sixth in the MAAC with 35 points. Her 22 assists are good for third in the conference and 25th nationally.
  • Kelly Haggerty adds a team-leading 21 goals.
  • Whitney Robinson anchors the defense with a MAAC-best 8.49 goals-against average. She is second in the conference in save percentage at .460.
  • As a team, the Fairfield defense is conceding 8.40 goals per game to rate second in the MAAC and 19th in the nation.
 
The Canisius University Golden Griffins (8-2, 2-0 MAAC)
  • Despite trailing by two goals with under 90 seconds to play in regulation, Canisius defeated visiting Quinnipiac, 15-14, on a buzzer-beating tally from Makenna Crouse.
  • The Griffs are third-most potent attack in the nation, scoring 16.80 goals per game. Ella Forcucci heads that effort with MAAC highs of 36 goals and 50 total points.
  • Megan Previdi adds a conference-best 35 assists.
  • Isabel Gautreaux has assumed starting goalkeeper duties, including all 120 minutes of the Griffs' two MAAC outings. On the season, she boasts a 9.14 goals-against average and a .495 save percentage in just over 300 minutes of action.
 
Series History
  • Fairfield has won nine straight meetings with Canisius to open up a 23-12 advantage in the all-time series.
  • The two historic MAAC Women's Lacrosse powers have met nine times in the postseason. Fairfield has won the last two playoff meetings, but the Griffs hold a 6-3 edge on the postseason docket with the Stags.
