FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Head Swimming and Diving Coach
Jacy Dyer has been named the women's head coach of Team USA for the upcoming FISU 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China.
The announcement was by Ian Quinn, Director of Swimming for Team USA. Dyer will join USC Associate Head Swimming and Diving Coach Peter Richardson, who was named the men's head coach for the World University Games.
"I am so honored for this opportunity to be the women's head coach for this USA team," Dyer said. "We are excited about the athletes we have representing the United States so far and are confident we're building a very strong team. This is an incredible opportunity and we can't wait to represent our country well on an international stage at the World University Games."
Dyer led the Fairfield University women's swimming and diving team to the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) championship in February and earned the MAAC Women's Swimming Coach of the Year. Under her guidance,
Erini Pappas was named the MAAC Women's Most Outstanding Swimmer after her performance at the conference championship. In the classroom, 19 women's swimmers and divers as well as 12 men's swimmers and divers garnered MAAC All-Academic honors.
She became Fairfield's head coach prior to the 2023-23 season after serving as the associate head coach at Virginia Tech during the 2021-22 season. Her coaching resume also includes three years as an assistant coach at Virginia Tech as well as stints with James Madison University as well as her alma mater University of Toledo.
The World University Games return for the first time since 2019 after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. The Games are the world's largest event for student-athletes and are held every two years in the odd year. This year, the World University Games will take place from July 28 through August 8, 2023.
