LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. – A share of the lead wasn't enough for Killian McGinley, who after placing tied atop the leaderboard yesterday, carded the best round of any player this weekend to take sole possession of first in the field to lead Fairfield University men's golf in the second round of the 2023 MAAC Championships.
McGinley lit up the field with birdies on five of his first nine holes of the round, tallying three consecutive to wrap the front-nine, and would score two more without a single hole above par to finish seven shots under par for the round. That in addition to his opening round score places him at an overall 11-under gives McGinley an eight-stroke lead on the field.
In addition, a pair of Stags matched their opening round scores to sit at four over for the tournament in Patrick McCarthy and Jason Salameno, followed by the remaining two members of the Fairfield quintet. Michael McCarthy and Shane DeVincenzo, level in a deadlock for 23rd in the field capped another impressive round for the Stags, the lowest score of the day, shooting 287 collectively to move up the team leaderboard into second place, just two shots back of the lead.
Siena leads the field at one under par, followed by the Stags two back and one ahead of Iona who fell from first to third. Mount St. Mary's jumped Saint Peter's for fourth place, followed by Canisius, Manhattan, Rider and Niagara who all hold their positions from day one.
