LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. – Another impressive round by Fairfield University men's golf senior Killian McGinley saw him shoot four under par to take a share of the lead after opening round action from the 2023 MAAC Championships.
McGinley's score marks the fifth consecutive round he has shot at or below par, taking the lead after the first of three rounds from Disney's Palm Course this weekend, tied with a single player from Siena. He would bounce back from a pair of early bogeys with two birdies on the front nine and would go on to card an eagle on 15, a par 5 hole, in addition to another three birdies on the back half, to finish at four under.
A trio of Stags placed in a share of 17th place at two over for the round in Patrick McCarthy, Jason Salameno, and Shane DeVincenzo, with Michael McCarthy rounding out the Fairfield quintet two shots back in a share of 26th place, giving the Stags a third-place finish as a team through the first 18 holes of the tournament. Iona leads the team scores at four under, one shot ahead of Siena in second, with St. Peter's and Mount St. Mary's just behind the Stags. Canisius sits sixth a few shots further back of the top-five, with Manhattan, Rider, and Niagara rounding out the field in succession.
