SHELTON, Conn. -- The women's second varsity 8 picked up a first-place finish as the Fairfield University women's rowing team competed against the College of the Holy Cross, Marist College, and Manhattan College on the Housatonic River this afternoon. The Stags sent crews to the event for the varsity 8, second varsity 8, varsity 4, and second varsity 4.
The second varsity 8 took the top spot based on its finish of 7:52.19 which was nearly four seconds better than Holy Cross (7:56.09). The Stags were represented by
Miranda Schmidt,
Sarah Wendling,
Meghan Megill,
Caroline McAndrew,
Isabella King,
Adalia Flores,
Emma Szachta,
Grace McDonough, and coxswain
Ellery McSpedon. The varsity 8 secured third place in their race, trailing Holy Cross's time of 7:34.58 and Marist's mark of 7:42.09. The Fairfield crew included

Arianna Welton,
Christina Caruso,
Emily Regan,
Catherine Morrissey,
Kathryn Bergstrom,
Chloe Lennon,
Arden Costello, and coxswain
Erin Dobbs.
The varsity 4 race ended with Fairfield holding down the runner-up position, crossing the finish line in 8:49.08 behind Holy Cross (8:37.12) and ahead of Marist (9:21.29). The Stags entry as comprised by

Marianna Kalin.
The second varsity event saw two Fairfield entries with the A crew holding down second place (9:38.73) and the B crew securing third place (9:44.48). Holy Cross registered the top spot by registering a time of 9:15.03. The A crew included

Alyssa Colombrita, Lily Krol, and coxswain Lexi Tomlinson while the B crew consisted of
Kara Davidson,
Alyson Moore, Cassie Reilly,
Megan Rourke, and coxswain
Michaela Thompson.
The women's rowing team will compete next at the Kerr Cup in Philadelphia on April 22.
