ELKHART, Ind. -- The Fairfield University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened competition at the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Invitational Championship on Thursday as seven individuals and two relay teams represented the Stags.
Fairfield's first event of the afternoon came in the 500 freestyle in which Fairfield placed two student-athletes into the competition.
Tim Regan was the team's top finisher when he secured a time of 4:34.38 while teammate
Joey Nizzardo also took part and completed the distance with a time of 4:45.27.
Erin Hoyland closed out the event for Fairfield as she posted a time of 4:58.54 over the distance.
Three individual competitors were included in the 200 IM later in the day, namely
Evan Fair,
Ed Hunt, and Hans Lim. Fair touched the wall with a time of 1:49.64 which was best among the trio. Hunt was next in line for the Stags as he finished the event with a time of 1:53.12, followed by Lim who took the distance in 1:56.17.
Erini Pappas represented Fairfield for the women's team and brought home a time of 2:04.14.
The first group that took to the pool today was the 400 medley relay team which secured 13th place overall by covering the distance in 3:24.72. The relay team included Fair, Jeffrey Vlass,
Nicholas Besgen, and Regan. The men's 200 freestyle relay also was in the water and recorded a time of 1:27.70 behind the efforts of Besgen,
Oliver McLaughlin,
Ryan Schuller, and
Joey Nizzardo.
On Friday, the NSCAA National Invitational Championship will include the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 backstroke, the 800 freestyle relay, and the 200 medley relay. The preliminaries are scheduled to start at 9:30 am while the finals are slated for a 6 pm start.
