ELKHART, Ind. -- The Fairfield University swimming and diving teams completed their second day of competition at the National Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Invitational Championships this evening. After two days, the men's team collected 34 team points while the women's team has earned 12 team points.
Sophomore
Erini Pappas advanced to the finals of the 100 backstroke this afternoon, finishing in the top 20 during the preliminaries with her time of 55.51. She came back to swim this evening and took 19th overall and ninth in the B Final after completing the distance in 55.73. She became the first Stag to advance to a final during this year's NSCAA event.
Three Fairfield swimmers participated in the men's 400 IM with
Evan Fair registering the fastest time on the team with a time of 4:00.69.
Ryan Schuller also competed in the event and stopped the timer at 4:04.45. Jeffrey Vlass was next in line with his performance of 4:07.78 to conclude the Stags' representation in the event.
Two women swimmers took to the pool for the 400 IM with
Erin Hoyland taking the best time among her teammates by clocking in at 4:28.62. Caroline Gray also swam the distance and turned in a time of 4:33.28.
Nicholas Besgen was next in the swim lane for the 100 butterfly, ending his swim in 50.78.
In the 200 freestyle, one Fairfield student-athlete from the men's and women's teams representing the program.
Tim Regan posted a time of 1:40.16 while
Sydney Scalise clocked in at 1:53.87. In addition to Pappas' 100 back performance,
Oliver McLaughlin also was involved in the event and ended his swim in 50.41.
Four relay teams also competed today beginning with the 800 freestyle. The men's foursome included Hans Lim,
Tim Regan,
Ed Hunt, and
Nicholas Besgen completed the distance in 6:45.55 while the women's relay was represented by
Erin Hoyland,
Sydney Scalise,
Cailey Stockwell, and
Erini Pappas who combined for a time of 7:42.26.Â
In the 200 medley relay,
Oliver McLaughlin,
Evan Fair,
Nicholas Besgen, and
Tim Regan recorded a time of 1:32.38 while
Erini Pappas,
Alison Sposili,
Olivia Thompson, and
Lily Barker completed the distance in 1:46.12.
