BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University men's swimming and diving team finished in fourth place at the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. On Day 4, three Stags swimmers earned a top three finish to highlight another solid day in the pool for Fairfield.
Alexey Belfer set a school record in the 100 freestyle by completing the event in 44.43 which was strong enough for second place in the race. The Stags posted two of the top three swimmers in the 1650 freestyle with
Joseph Stewart and
Joey Nizzardo taking second and third places respectively. Stewart covered the distance in 15:42.23 while Nizzardo was next on the podium with his time of 15:51.51.
Oliver McLaughlin scored team points with his eighth place finish in the 200 backstroke with his time of 1:52.14.
Tim Regan also competed in the 100 freestyle and posted a time of 46.06 which placed him seventh in the standings.
Chris Ford and Jeffrey Vlass represented the Stags in the 200 breaststroke, taking fifth and seventh respectively. Ford completed the distance in 2:01.13 while Vlass was not far behind his teammate in 2:05.18.
Two Fairfield swimmers participated in the 200 butterfly, namely
Evan Fair and
Hans Tristan Lim. Fair secured the fifth slot in the event by swimming the course in 1:50.85 while Lim grabbed seven place with his time of 1:54.71.Â
The 400 freestyle relay team established another school record with their fourth place finish in the event.

Alexey Belfer combined for the team's time of 3:02.34.
