FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The second-seeded Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host the fourth-seeded Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Semifinal match on Thursday night at 7pm. The Stags will be playing in the conference semifinals for the third-straight season and the fourth time in the last five years.
The Stags earned the two-seed by posting a 7-2-1 conference record, their 26th winning conference mark in program history.
Fairfield accomplished this success with a high-powered offense that led the MAAC and ranked seventh in the country with 348 shots attempted, the most under the
David Barrett era. The Stags also placed second in the conference with 32 goals scored, the fifth time in the six seasons under Coach Barrett that the squad has eclipsed 30 goals.
On the defensive side, the Stags allowed just 3.6 shots on goal per game and an astonishing 2.7 against MAAC opponents. That is the fewest shots on goal surrendered during the Coach Barrett era.
For that success, seven different Stags earned All-MAAC honors with
Elle Scott,
Maddy Theriault, and
Caroline Kelly earning First Team accolades.
Meghan Carragher,
Allie Kirby, and
Reagan Klarmann all earned Second Team laurels while
Sam Kersey was named to the All-MAAC Third Team. Fairfield has now developed 15 All-MAAC athletes in the last two seasons and 27 in the six years under Barrett.
The Stags also showed their depth this season with seven different athletes earning MAAC weekly honors. A total of five student-athletes were named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week while
Katie Wright earned one MAAC Defensive Player of the Week and
Dana Nadda brought home one MAAC Rookie of the Week award.
The Mount enters their first MAAC Semifinal match after a 1-0 victory over Niagara on Saturday. Luisangely Navas, Erin Antone, and Madison Bee are all tied for the team lead with a pair of goals. Klil Keshwar has been the leader in net with a 0.79 goals against average and an .864 save percentage.
The Stags will be looking for their 10th appearance in the MAAC Championship match and their first since 2019. The winner of this match will advance to the title game on Sunday against the winner of top-seeded Quinnipiac and sixth-seeded Rider.
