FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team has released their 2023 schedule which features four teams that competed in last year's NCAA Regionals and four squads who won 30 games last season. The Stags will open up the 72nd season in program history when they take on Coastal Carolina on Friday, Feb. 17 in their first game of the Baseball at the Beach tournament.
"I think we built a schedule in 2023 that really challenges us with NCAA Regional teams and teams we feel that we can beat," Head Coach
Bill Currier said. "We feel like these teams present a good challenge for us. That's the type of schedule that we like and it works for challenging our players to make them better and then coming home to a MAAC schedule. We feel this schedule prepares us well to be challenged on both ends of the ball against very good early season opponents."
The game against the Chanticleers will be the first-ever meeting against the two squads, one of three new opponents of Fairfield's schedule. Coastal Carolina will also be the first of eight non-conference opponents that tallies a winning record in 2022.
The Stags will also take on VCU in the middle game of the Baseball at the Beach tournament on Saturday Feb. 18 at 11am. The Rams won 42 games last season, the most by any Fairfield opponent, en-route to the A-10 Championship. Fairfield will close play in Conway, S.C., when they face Middle Tennessee for the first time in program history on Feb. 19 at 10am.
Fairfield will then travel for their first three-game series of the season when they head to the nation's capital to face George Washington starting on Friday, Feb. 24.
The Stags will stay in the Virginia area to face three schools in the state when they take on: Richmond (Friday, March 3), William & Mary (March 4), and VCU (March 5). All three opponents tallied winning records in 2022.
Fairfield will then head for their annual southern trip to the state of Florida for five games in the Sunshine State. The Stags will have a weekend series against North Florida (March 10-12) and then two mid-week contests against Stetson (March 14-15).
The Stags will return to the Northeast for four more road contests beginning with a three-game series against Fordham (March 17-19) and a single game against Central Connecticut State on Wednesday, March 22.
Fairfield will finally end their 18-game season opening road trip by opening the MAAC and home slate against Siena for a three-game series starting on March 24. The Stags will also host three-game MAAC series against: Niagara (April 21-23) and defending champions Canisius (May 5-7), before closing the season at home against Iona (May 18-20).
The Stags will open their MAAC road series against Mount St. Mary's in their first-ever game against the Mountaineers starting on March 31. They will also visit: Manhattan (April 6-8), Rider (April 28-30), and Marist (May 12-14).
Fairfield will host five non-conference opponents at Alumni Diamond including: St. John's (March 28), Yale (April 4), Quinnipiac (April 11), Hartford (April 15 doubleheader), and Sacred Heart (April 25).
The Stags will have five more non-conference road games including: Hartford (April 14), Hofstra (April 19), Sacred Heart (April 26), Stony Brook (May 2), and at UMass (May 16).
The 2023 MAAC Championships will be held in Pomona, N.Y., with the top-six teams of the conference qualifying on May 24.
