FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will travel to Emmitsburg, Md., to battle the newest member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Wednesday at 4pm. The two teams will be meeting for the first time in program history. This will also be the first match for the Stags in the state of Maryland since facing Towson in 2014.
The Stags will be looking to stay unbeaten during the early portion of the conference schedule after defeating Marist 2-1 on Lessing Field.
Elle Scott and
Hannah Vogt both provided the goals for the squad, netting one in each half.
Just 17 minutes into the game, Scott tapped in her third goal of the season off a corner kick from
Maddie Mills to the back post. Fairfield would double their advantage when Vogt converted a wide-open opportunity that was created from a deflected cross from
Maddy Theriault.
Fairfield had numerous chances in the match with a season-high 23 shots. Eleven of those attempts were on goal but the Marist goalkeeper was able to make a season-high nine saves.
The Stags enter the match leading the MAAC in shots with 130 and ranking third in the conference with 1.78 goals per game. Scott, Mills, and Theriault are all tied with the team lead with three goals apiece.
Fairfield has also ranked as one of the top defensive teams in the conference, leading the MAAC with a 0.89 goals against average and a .833 save percentage.
The Mount enters play with a 0-1-1 record in the MAAC, most recently coming off a 2-1 loss to Iona. Madison Bee and Luisangely Navas are tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. Drew Camp has started five matches in net and holds a 1-1-3 record with a .835 save percentage.
The Stags will return home to face in-state rivals Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1pm.
