Stags Host Niagara for Three-Game Set

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will host their first conference series of the season when they welcome the Niagara Purple Eagles to Alumni Diamond for a three-game series starting on Friday at 2pm. The middle game will take place on Saturday at 1pm with the series finale starting on Sunday at noon.

The Stags will enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak after walking off against Central Connecticut State on a 10th inning homer by Colin Kelly. The home run was the second in as many days for the shortstop who is now tied for second on the team with three four baggers.

The Fairfield pitching was impressive in Fairfield's two midweek games as they combined for a 2.37 ERA while allowing 13 hits in 19 innings. Jack Erbeck picked up his first career win in the 8-2 victory against Hartford as he hurled three shutout innings while giving up just one hit and one walk.

Jason Hebner recorded the win in the exciting Wednesday afternoon contest by striking out three and stranding the bases loaded in the top on the 10th.

On the offensive side, Kelly led the Stags with three hits in the two games with two home runs and four RBI.

Niagara enters the weekend with a 2-18 overall record and will be playing in their first conference series of the year. The Purple Eagles have lost seven-straight, most recently a three-game sweep by South Florida. Cole O'Connor leads the team with a .280 batting average with Josh Marchese providing the power with a team-high four homers.

The Stags will have another busy week coming up with five games in six days, starting with midweek games at St. John's on Tuesday at 3pm before hosting Yale on Wednesday at 4pm.
